Jay McCalment Lynch

Jay McCalment Lynch was born on 22 Sep 1894, in Chariton, Lucas, Iowa.  He died on 29 June, 1960, in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.  He was the son of John Clement Lynch and Sarah Catherine McCullough.

Ruth Evelyn Rogers

Jay married Ruth Evelyn Rogers on 12 August 1924, in Grinnell, Powesheik, Iowa, USA.  Ruth was born on 6 Jun 1898, in Union, Harding, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Halleck Allerton Rogers and Mary Jane Armstrong.

Jay went to College and graduated with a degree in dentistry.  To put himself through college he cut hair as a barber.

Jay became a prominent dentist in Des Moines, Iowa.

One month Vacation – Cass Lake, Minnesota

His success is illustrated by the fact that every year in the summer he would take his family (his wife, Ruth, his son, Richard and his daughter, Mary Kay) to Cass Lake in Minnesota for a month.  Wow!! A whole month every summer.

Cass Lake, Minnesota

On this vacation, Jay and Ruth would let Richard and Mary Kay off on an island with small toy cars and trucks.  Richard and Mary Kay would have fun playing with those toys while Jay and Ruth would fish for Walleyed Pike in the lake.  Richard and Mary Kay would also pick wild raspberries and strawberries which grew wild on the island.

One month Vacation – Lake Vermillion, Minnesota

They did this for many years and then one year they went to Lake Vermillion in Minnesota instead of Cass Lake and they all did the same activities as before.

As mentioned Jay had a prosperous dental practice in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.  He worked on the 7th floor of a building right in the middle of downtown Des Moines.

After many years of dentistry, Jay’s hands developed a disease that caused them to shake.  This was not good for a dentist.  So, Jay took some classes on gum disease and specialized in treating gum disease.

On 29 Jun 1960, Jay McCalment Lynch died of stomach cancer in Des Moines, Iowa.
